There is no surprise why Monorail Music has been on top of its game for over two decades and earning one of the best reputations within Glasgow in the meantime. The shop stocks newer releases as opposed to second-hand tracks, but their stock is plentiful, housing a wide range of genres. If it’s on your hit list, there’s a very good chance it’s on Monorail’s racks. They share their roof with the brilliant vegan cafe and bar, Mono, whose tunes are provided by the record shop. It’s the perfect place to recharge your batteries before you’re ready to do some more hunting or a well-earnt drink after your record purchases.

Tucked away near Central Station is Missing Records, and it is pretty easy to walk past. However, after making their way into the basement of the shop, there is an eclectic amount of vinyl which waits to be explored. Established in 1984, the independent record store champions all second-hand stock, from pretty much any genre imaginable. It’s an absolute treasure trove for disc jockeys, with some brilliant deals to be struck too. They also put on some very desirable gig nights which are guaranteed to be sold out.

Rubadub can be simply described as heaven for music lovers. The shop goes much beyond a record store, as the retailer stocks specialist music technology, DJ gear and studio equipment. Whether you’re looking for some quality dance tracks or you’re taking your DJ set up to the next level, Rubadub have you covered. It has supported many local talents, which has earnt it a fine reputation. Their stock ranges from house, disco, techno and hip-hop, where their expert staff are extremely knowledgeable if you’re ever at a crossroads with your purchase.

One of the newer stores in Glasgow is Some Great Records which was established in 2018, and a great reward you will receive after having a sift through their LPs. The name is derived from the 1984 Depeche Mode Album, where the store has the Glaswegian community at the heart of the shop, so it’s a great opportunity to discover the upcoming talent the city has to offer. Quality is guaranteed here, the staff are visibly passionate and enthusiastic about music. They also operate as a coffee shop, so it’s well worth getting down for the music or a brew and cake.
